Alive

Enjoyed working out today. Walking fast and doing weights got my heart beating hard. Made me feel like I’m alive or something.

I didn’t workout

I didn’t workout yesterday as I had planned, but I did get some walking in at the mall. When I wasn’t rifling through stores getting Christmas ideas, I focused on walking quick enough to get my heart racing but not so fast that I looked like a weirdo.

Runners, don’t read this

lest ye judge me!

Last night, my walking pace was fast—fast enough to almost feel like running. So that’s what I did.

I ran for a total of 5 minutes, which sounds pathetic. Who can’t run for 5 minutes? linda_yuckyfoot.jpgWell, since I injured my ankle so badly a couple years ago, I haven’t run at all. Ok, maybe a few steps to try to hit a tennis ball or to keep the kids out of the road, but nothing like last night. It was good, old-fashioned jogging. (In case you don’t know: I tore every tendon and ligament in my very swollen ankle and missed 3 months of work. Had to go to physical therapy for months to re-learn how to use my muscles.)

I’m not a runner, but I have always enjoyed sprints or trying to beat the quick arm of the first baseman. Running for the sake of running, however, has seemed a little idiotic—no offense. Why run when you can do something more interesting to exercise?

I think I’m changing my belief system a bit, opening it up for things like running and rice milk.

Recap o’ the week

193720_7238.jpg

SO SORRY that I have not blogged. Isn’t that rude, saying you’re going to do a daily journal and then lying? Well, please give me another chance and read this recap o’ the week to catch up.

Monday: Walked at a fast pace on the treadmill, but only for 20 minutes. This is the amount of time Justin has designated for me, though, so I guess I shouldn’t beat myself up.

Tuesday: First round of 2-set workouts. Stairs are still the most difficult: did 8 reps, which doesn’t quite add up to the 40 I should be doing. But, dang! It kicks my butt. (Hopefully, it’ll firm it too.)

Wednesday: Skipped my workout! This was due to meandering so much throughout the morning that all my duties and schoolwork stacked up in the evening. Brian came home from Wyoming, so I relaxed with him.

Thursday: 45 minutes on the treadmill! Now, that’s what I call a great workout. I was sweating so much. Gross. : )

So, my plan for tomorrow is to do a short 20 minutes of walking as well as my weights so that I can make up that one lost day.

Did it

One full week of workouts, and I loved it!

Thanks, Justin.

So, the easiest part for me is the treadmill. It’s addictive—and the brainless, escape to another place part of it brings relaxation in a strange way. I mean, my heart is pumping and it’s making me sweat, but I get to zone out or think about great things.

The hardest part is still those dang stairs. It will come as my legs grow in strength. I think I’ll measure my success by how many stair reps I can do.

Tired, man.

img_1639_2.jpgSo, I did walk last night, which marked six days straight of following Justin’s plan. I noticed greater fatigue in my muscles and deeper breathing. I was tired, man. An interesting thing, though, is that I look forward to the workout each day. Tonight I’m weight training, and hope to push the stairs to over 10 reps. Those are the hardest for me, and I’ve only been able to do 6 so far. The wall sit will be getting more difficult, too, considering I add 5 seconds to my time each day.

Tomorrow is my day off from official exercise, but maybe we can take the kids on an evening walk instead. Wear ‘em out before bed. That would help Jake calm his mind and get ready for another long week at school.

Shame on me: I needed this

262734_1635.jpgI needed this blog tonight. Tired from waking early, school, work, etc, blah blah, I sat on the couch, enjoying TV for the first time in three days, cuddled in a bubblegum pink sweatshirt…and I was not going to workout.

But then I remembered this blog and wondered what the heck I would write if I bailed on my fitness within the first week.

Besides, I really like working out—I always feel jazzed when my heart starts pumping better. However, we all know this health thing is more a battle in the mind than the body.

Tonight, I chose to be faithful.

Treadmill tunes wed.

img_1639_2.jpgTonight was my treadmill workout. I walked 1.8 miles in 37 minutes. Don’t know if that’s good or bad, but I sure feel fantastic after the fact. I planned on stopping at 25 minutes, but songs kept popping up on my iPod that made me keep going. Thinking about how motivational a beat can be, I wanted to share my iPod Playlist with you.

Here are my treadmill tunes for tonight:

Survivor (acapella)—Destiny’s Child
Mr. Brightside—The Killers
Starry Eyed Surprise—Paul Oakenfold
Dreams—The Cranberries
Feel Good Inc.—Gorillaz
When I Hear Music—Debbie Deb
The Rockafeller Skank—Fatboy Slim
Our Lips Are Sealed—Hilary Duff & Haylie Duff
Yeah—Usher

Shakin’ all over

742370_58160536.jpg

But it feels good.

(FYI: I wrote this last evening)

The most difficult parts of my workout tonight were the stairs and the dumbell biceps curl on the ball. Oh my goodness… I thought running up and down stairs would be relatively easy, that the bench press or bows & toes would crush me, but that was not so. The stairs were a horrid, burning fiasco that I WILL conquer, but only after my body gets used to this idea of daily exercise.

For now, I’m exhausted.
